PART 2 \u2014 A SHORT INTERLUDE ON SONGWRITING & THE ROAD TO OFF THE EDGE<\/p>\n
As I kept working through my catalogue of songs, I started sorting them into categories \u2014 and a few surprises jumped out at me. Sure, there were plenty of punk tracks (no surprises there), but once I dug deeper, a whole mix of genres emerged: heavy metal, punk metal, and, oddly enough, a handful of rap songs.<\/p>\n
Then there were the blues tracks. They didn\u2019t fit neatly into any of the other categories, yet some of them are among my favorites. I\u2019ve always enjoyed a good blues tune but lets face it, I enjoy any good track if it sparks my interest. <\/p>\n
So what\u2019s the point of all this? With the new platform I\u2019m using, I\u2019m finally able to bring life to the tracks that genuinely deserve it. Some are full-blown party anthems, some have been performed by MCs or hip hop artists, others by punk vocalists \u2014 a whole range of voices shaping the material in ways I never expected.<\/p>\n
Going through the process made one thing crystal clear: this body of work is the result of twenty years of living. The experiences, the places, the trouble, the parties, the personal battles, it all shaped these songs. I don\u2019t know what anyone else will tell you, but if you sit down and try to write a track without something real behind it, you\u2019re unlikely to create your best work. Some of my songs were born from fighting my own imaginary demons, from dread, from things I\u2019ve seen, from things I shouldn\u2019t have seen. And some simply let me relive the best kind of chaos from my early years. That energy is still there \u2014 you can hear it in the final mixes.<\/p>\n
A little side news:
\nNow because I collaborated with different artists and bring in new vocalists, some tracks had to be reworked. That meant I needed to purchase a commercial license to legally perform and publish them. The good news is: it\u2019s done. I can now release the music on all the usual platforms \u2014 YouTube, Facebook, and more. I can even make tracks available for other artists who might want to perform them. They\u2019re not easy songs, so I don\u2019t expect a stampede, but the offer is there and of course site visitors can purchase the tracks for their own personal usage, playing them at parties, you name it.<\/p>\n
Now, back to Off The Edge, I\u2019ve put together a summary page in the shop where the album is available. It breaks down each track and gives you a sense of the song. Some carry deeper meanings, the kind you only grasp if you could crawl inside my head \u2014 but listening to them is a pretty solid start. I\u2019m still deciding how the songs will roll out. They\u2019re all part of a larger story, and ideally they\u2019d be released in an order, but it\u2019s a heavy album so maybe a taste is enough for now.<\/p>\n So there it is \u2014 a brief look at Lipcrack, its songwriting roots, and the journey that\u2019s brought this project to life.
