Apparently, getting music out into the world can take longer than writing and producing the tracks in the first place!

Fortunately, there’s email marketing, which has been working reasonably well as we continue getting the word out. There are always a few hiccups along the way, but you work through them and keep moving. That’s the nature of the game.

So what’s been happening behind the scenes?

For starters, I’ve finally managed to get a sample of every track from “Off The Edge” into the music player on the website. That means you can now get a better feel for the album as a whole, rather than having to rely on a couple of tracks to decide whether it’s your kind of thing. You can now listen here : https://www.lipcrack.com/audiolip.html

Of course, we’re not about to give away the entire album for free. There’s a difference between giving people a taste of what they’re buying and handing over the whole meal before they’ve even reached the checkout! We believe that if you’re paying for music, you should be getting something worth paying for.

And with the range of sounds, the energy and the sheer amount of action packed into this album, we believe there’s plenty here for serious punters to get their teeth into.

One of my personal favorites is actually Party Mood Rampage. I even produced a video for it, although other tracks eventually took priority for release. That doesn’t mean it’s been consigned to the musical scrap heap, though. It may yet find its way onto YouTube, where people can see and hear what the track is all about. But not any time soon. In the meantime, the video for “Welcome to the Future” is already out there on YouTube and Instagram, and the view numbers are slowly starting to climb.

You can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB2AydhsVzk

There’s just one small technical gremlin to contend with. The audio player seems to have a problem inside the WordPress blog when using Google Chrome, although it works in Microsoft Edge. Go figure! Until that gets sorted, the video will have to remain an external link rather than being embedded directly into the blog.

Stepping off the Spotify playlist treadmill

Last month, I wrote about the less-than-glamorous side of Spotify playlist promotion and some of the problems surrounding the industry. After looking more closely at how it operates, I’ve decided it’s time to take a break from chasing playlist numbers. The costs can mount up, and there’s always the risk of running into trouble with streaming activity that platforms consider to be outside their guidelines. You can end up spending money trying to build an audience, only to find yourself dealing with penalties and the removal of streams.

At some point, you have to ask yourself whether the whole exercise is worth the hassle. For now, I’ve decided to put that particular treadmill to one side and concentrate on other ways of getting Lipcrack’s music in front of people. There’s still plenty of work to do, and I’d rather spend the time reaching out to potential listeners than pouring money into a system that can leave you going backwards.

The long game – I’m now about three-quarters of the way through our mailing lists. With the album approaching its first anniversary, it might seem like a long time to be promoting the same release, but reaching a wider audience is rarely an overnight affair. Getting music out there is one thing. Getting it heard by the right people is another, and that takes persistence, time and a fair bit of legwork.

The good news is that there’s more music waiting in the wings. Over the next couple of months, the plan is to start getting another album of material that’s been sitting in the backlog into shape for release.

So while things might appear a little quiet on the surface, there’s still plenty going on behind the scenes. The promotion continues, the music keeps coming, and Lipcrack isn’t about to disappear into the background just because we’ve taken our foot off the Spotify playlist accelerator.

More news on the next release next month.

Until then, keep the volume up and stay tuned. There’s more to come!

Lipcrack Keeps Moving!
