A Day In The Life

Posted on August 29, 2025August 29, 2025 By Alena

A Month of Reflection and New Beginnings.

Well, it’s official — I’ve had my first month of no music industry hustle! No more constant promotions, no frantic mail-outs, and honestly, it’s been like a mental vacation. My head feels clearer, my mood is lighter, and it’s like I’ve finally shed a heavy weight. It’s amazing how stepping back from the grind can give you such a fresh perspective.

But here’s the thing: even though I took a break from the promotional side of things, the website keeps ticking along, bringing in new listeners and customers without my constant emails. It’s a relief to realize that even when you’re not actively pushing, the work you’ve put in still is rewarding. It’s a reminder that just because one chapter ends, the story doesn’t.

And as luck would have it, I didn’t have to twiddle my thumbs for long! I’m already diving into new opportunities. In fact, I’ve taken on a few voluntary roles, including one at a second-hand shop that sells everything from electronics to furniture and clothing. It’s been a fun, fast-paced environment, and I’m really enjoying it.

The other venture is in the world of gift shopping and food preparation. Right now, I’m navigating some pretty rigorous screening tests for immunizations, food hygiene, and working with children. Let’s just say, I’m not a fan of needles, and couldn’t help but think of my song “Those needles and pins, they were sinking in”, I had to compromise my preferences of not having them to having them for the position. But things like measles are becoming a big hazard and I certainly don’t want to catch them in a hospital environment.

On the mental health front, it’s been a solid month of self-care and growth. I’ve even toyed with the idea of getting back into some electronic music creation in my spare time — just to keep my skills sharp and current. It’s easy to get caught up in learning something new, only for it to become irrelevant a few years down the line. Still, I’m not letting that discourage me. There’s so much hype around “upskilling” these days, but it can feel like a bit of a treadmill. So, while I’m all for learning new things, I’ve come to appreciate that real growth sometimes happens in ways you don’t expect.

So, to wrap things up, I’m feeling pretty grateful for all the unexpected turns this month has taken. It’s been a reminder that the hard work I’ve put into building something meaningful continues to be relevant, and I’m excited to see where it all goes from here. Volunteering has been a lifeline, keeping me engaged and focused, while a little time away from my usual routine has recharged my energy.

As for the social media success stories — well, I’ve learned that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. But that’s a story for another time.

Wishing you all a great month ahead. Catch up again soon!
