So what a month, everyone ready for the plans that don’t go to plan – Plan.
That’s what it seemed to be for Lipcrack this August and I’ll tell you why.
The main computing system for mail outs and promotions decided to go on it’s own private vacation. Thats the Black Dell running Windows 10. At this time it still is unknown in terms of what the problem might be but is currently believed to be a power button issue. That was after an initial look into the matter and how it is presenting itself.
After further research into the matter it turns out that power button issues are quite common. I’m sure everyone is well aware that portable computers including laptops come with a range of different power buttons, I have noticed as new products are release but have never actually thought about it in terms of when purchasing a computer. Basically I’ve gone with what is available and it’s been a good experience. Let’s face it, after checking it out further I have actually had that computer over 5 years which surprised even me so at this point I’m thinking, “it’s not unexpected for something to go wrong”.
So what has occurred as a result of this months computer outage?
That turned into a bit of an ordeal in itself. The reason being that the Silver Acer has a shrinking drive in terms of space and an update was purchased to overcome that problem. Now I’m not going to go into HDD drives and SSD drives but by the time the matter was best resolved a new drive purchased and everything reinstalled. The drive couldn’t be cloned. Annoying huh? The good news is at the same time as it was updated from Windows 10 to Windows 11 as it had that ability. The Black Dell doesn’t. See how finicky these machines can be in terms of batch numbers?
The good news is as a result of the whole process, what was running on two machines is now running on one with no space issues, no slow loads – plenty of memory, and a fair amount of room to move in terms of job tasks (about 8 times more space). The next couple of days are going to be spent of finalising configurations for all tasks and some time taken to get familiar with the new Windows 11 environment. It’s actually quite different and I’m looking forward to that.
Of course once that’s all completed mail outs will recommence and video software will be further researched in terms of future possibilities in development. There was some significant improvements in the music equipment in terms of getting all programs running with easy access and I know right now, if I were to start developing a new EP tomorrow I’d be working with a better range of equipment than I was previously.
Now what of the out of action computer? If it is the power button, it turns out it’s possibly one of the most difficult parts of the computer to repair because in most instances once you turn the computer over and take the back off, it’s underneath all the other components. It does possibly depend on your computer but its still tricky. I haven’t had a moment to call any technical support companies, I’m fairly sure it is that but it could have other issues that I’m not aware of.
That said, currently it now seems it’s just going to be best to get to it when I have a spare moment. I do actually have an update drive sitting here waiting to go into it as well which will improve it’s performance but currently it’s not a priority. It can possibly wait till I have a moment to check it out further myself. I am a little worried because if I take it into a repair company and there’s more than one thing wrong with it they can end up costing significantly more than the purchase of a new machine. Hard to believe really but that’s how competitive the sellers market place is. Given the improvements to the new Silver Acer there’s no plan to purchase a new one at this time. It does everything!
So what a month huh? Spring is taking shape with the flowers and bud’s in the yard, the rain will start easing off and things will be running smoothly again regardless of an out of action computer. For now hope everyone who receives an update checks out the new track and get ready for another release soon enough. It’s overdue I know that but as part of this task, the site development software also had to be reinstalled on the Silver Acer so it’s very much jump from task to task in spare time.
See you all next month, take good care.
